Professional Day 2012

General Assembly 2012 will be June 20-24 in Phoenix, Arizona. This Justice GA is an opportunity to work in a completely different way- we invite you to come help make the magic happen. 

Our 2012 Sophia Lyon Fahs Lecturer will be Louise Derman-Sparks, author of Anti-Bias Curriculum: Tools for Empowering Young Children. Her lecture "Bending Toward Justice: Race, Immigration, and Religious Education" will be Thursday 3:15-4:30, Convention Center 120 D. In addition, Ms. Derman-Sparks will be our keynote speaker for Professional Day.

PROFESSIONAL DAY AND ANNUAL MEETING - In keeping with the spirit of a "minimal business" General Assembly, the LREDA Board decided to put all our internal events on Wednesday, June 20th. Check out the schedule.

Other exciting news - we'll be sharing a GIANT area in the exhibit hall with many of our religious professional organizations - it may well be the happeningest place in the convention center! Mosey on over to Booth 109.

We are delighted to announce Dale McGowan as the Fahs Lecturer for 2010! 

He edited and co-authored Parenting Beyond Belief and Raising Freethinkers, the first comprehensive resources for nontheistic parents. He writes the secular parenting blog The Meming of Life, teaches nontheistic parenting seminars across the United States, and serves as executive director of Foundation Beyond Belief, a 501(c)(3) humanist charitable and educational foundation based in Atlanta.

His theme "Warping and Woofing through the Human Tapestry" promises to be engaging for religious professionals and parents alike.

Keynote speaker: Rev. Dr. Nancy Crumbine "Religious Education: The Heartbeat of Our Movement." The keynote will explore how spirituality and creativity abound within the anxieties of our lives as educators. To nurture ourselves in ways that keep us centered and healthy in a troubled and broken world, we can manage our difficulties so that we remember what really matters. Bring your spirit, enthusiasm and your voices, as music and humor will permeate her talk.

The Rev. Dr. Nancy Jay Crumbine is a Unitarian Univeralist minister, a professor at Dartmouth College, a writer, actor, and public speaker. She has been a keynote speaker at many UU conferences both in the US and the UK, including Star Island (RE and Arts weeks), UK Hucklow, Silver Bay UU Weekend in New York, and the GA of British Unitarians in Chester, England. She is the author of Humility, Anger, and Grace, Meditations Towards a Life that Matters and The Unitarian Paradox. Her poems appear in two volumes of The Still Poodle Poets.

Finding the Divine in Nature
